Newborn Session
Newborn sessions are very special and require patience, preparation, and a calm environment. My goal is to create timeless, beautiful memories of your baby in a safe and comfortable setting.
Newborn sessions typically take 3–4 hours, allowing enough time for feeding, soothing, and posing your baby safely.
I travel to your home and bring everything needed, including wraps, props, lighting, and posing equipment.
Arrival & Setup
I will arrive 15–30 minutes early to prepare the setup and ensure everything is ready before we begin photographing your baby.
Space Requirements
Please have an area available inside your home with approximately:
5 ft x 5 ft space, preferably in the living room or an open area.
I will bring:
• Professional lighting
• Light stands
• Newborn posing support equipment
• Wraps and props
The space should be:
• Clean and clutter-free if possible
• Near a window (if available)
• Warm and comfortable for baby
Session Flow
We typically begin with newborn photos first, while baby is calm and sleepy.
After newborn photos are completed, we will move on to family photos in a simple and natural area of your home (usually the living room or bedroom).
My style is soft, natural, and timeless, focusing on baby as the main subject.
Newborn Packages
There are two newborn session options:
Package 1 – Baby Only
• Focused entirely on newborn individual photos
• Wrapped and posed baby portraits
• No siblings included in posing
Package 2 – Newborn + Family
• Includes newborn photos
• Includes parents
• Includes siblings
• Pets may be included if safe and manageable
Siblings are only included during family photos.
If you would like siblings posed together with newborn, please discuss this with the photographer before the session, as additional preparation may be required.
Preparing Baby Before the Session
Preparing baby properly helps achieve those calm, sleepy poses.
Recommended preparation:
• Try to keep baby awake for about 1 hour before the session
• Feed baby during my setup time
• A full baby is usually a sleepy and comfortable baby
• Feeding helps baby feel relaxed and ready for photos
• Please expect normal newborn behavior such as feeding breaks, diaper changes, and soothing time
Parents know their baby best, so please follow your normal feeding routine as much as possible.
A sleepy baby allows for smoother posing and helps create those cozy, peaceful newborn images.
Parent Precautions & Hygiene 🤍
Your baby’s safety and comfort are always my top priority. Newborns have sensitive and developing immune systems, so I take extra care to ensure a clean and safe environment during your session.
Please inform me ahead of time if:
• Baby has any medical concerns
• Baby has a sensitive or compromised immune system
• There are any known allergies (skin sensitivities, fabrics, pets, etc.)
• Anyone in the household is feeling sick before the session
• There are any special instructions I should be aware of for baby’s safety or comfort
The more information I have, the better I can prepare to create a safe experience for your newborn.
Clean & Hygienic Equipment
All wraps, fabrics, and props are cleaned and sanitized before each session.
My equipment is prepared with hygiene in mind to ensure a safe environment for your baby.
I will also:
• Have hand sanitizer available at all times
• Sanitize my hands frequently throughout the session
• Handle baby gently and carefully
• Maintain a clean workspace during setup and posing
If parents prefer additional precautions, I am happy to accommodate.
For example:
• I am happy to wear a mask if requested
• I can take extra hygiene steps based on your comfort level
• Parents are always welcome to share any concerns before the session
For additional reassurance, I stay up to date with recommended health precautions so I can safely work with newborns and families.
During the Session 🤍
Newborn sessions are very baby-led, meaning we move at your baby’s pace to ensure they feel safe, comfortable, and calm throughout the session.
Some poses may take a little longer to achieve, and sometimes babies may not feel comfortable in certain positions. While there may be specific poses parents love, baby’s comfort and safety will always come first.
If a pose does not feel right for baby, we will simply move on to another beautiful option. Every baby is unique, and we will capture a variety of natural and timeless images.
It is completely normal for babies to:
• Cry
• Move frequently
• Open their eyes
• Need extra soothing
• Want to be fed again
• Need diaper changes
These behaviors are all part of a normal newborn session.
If baby becomes unsettled, I may pause the session and hand baby back to mom for comfort and bonding time. Once baby is soothed, we will continue the session.
Patience is key, and allowing time for baby to relax helps us create the best possible images.
During most of the newborn portion of the session, I will gently guide and handle the posing process so parents can relax and enjoy the experience.
Transition to Family Photos
When I am almost finished with the newborn portion, I will inform parents so everyone can begin getting ready for family photos (if included in your selected package).
At that time:
• Baby can be dressed in an outfit provided by parents, or I can wrap baby in one of my wraps
• Parents and siblings can get dressed
• I will begin packing away some equipment and organize the space
• We will then move into family portraits
Family photos typically include:
• Baby with mom
• Baby with dad
• Baby with siblings
• Individual parent photos with baby
• Full family group photos
• A few natural candid moments
If you have a specific image idea or inspiration photo in mind, please share it with your photographer before the session so we can plan accordingly.
Clothing Guidance 🤍
My photography style focuses on soft, natural, and timeless tones.
Neutral colors and soft color palettes photograph beautifully and help keep the focus on your baby and family connection.
Recommended tones include:
• Cream
• Beige
• Soft white
• Light gray
• Soft browns
• Pastel tones
• Muted earthy colors
Soft textures such as knit fabrics, simple dresses, or solid colors photograph very well.
Avoid:
• Busy patterns
• Bright neon colors
• Large logos or graphics
• Very bold prints
However, overall I want parents to feel comfortable and confident. You are welcome to wear colors that feel like you.
The goal is for your images to feel natural, warm, and timeless.
Props & Styling Options 🤍
I will bring a variety of wraps, fabrics, baskets, and simple props to create a soft and timeless look for your newborn session.
Most of the styling and setup will be prepared by me on the day of the session. I enjoy creating unique combinations and adjusting setups based on baby’s comfort, lighting, and available space in your home.
You will see inspiration photos on this page to help guide your preferences.
These images will help you choose:
• Color tones you like
• Basket or prop styles you prefer
• Overall look and feel
Please note:
Photos shown on the website are examples of style inspiration. Setups may vary slightly depending on space, lighting, and baby’s comfort during the session.
Basket or Prop Preference
If you see a basket or prop in the inspiration photos that you love, please let me know.
Otherwise, I will select options that work best for baby’s comfort and safety.
Special Items (optional)
You are welcome to include meaningful items such as:
• baby blanket
• special outfit
• ultrasound photo
• heirloom items
• religious items
• sentimental object
• name sign
Simple items photograph best.
Important Note
Every baby responds differently during sessions.
Some props or poses may not be possible depending on:
• baby’s comfort
• baby’s flexibility
• baby’s mood
• time available during session
Baby’s safety and comfort will always come first.
Even if certain setups are not possible, we will still capture beautiful images.
